Mr. Alaa El Zoheiry, a distinguished leader in the insurance industry with over 32 years of extensive experience across regional and international markets took over the Presidency from Mr. Yared Mola, at the end of the 52nd Conference and Annual General Assembly of the AIO which held in Cairo, Egypt.
Alaa El Zoheiry holds a Diploma in Non-Life Insurance from Cairo University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Sadat Academy for Management Sciences, Faculty of Management. He started his Insurance carrier in the Egyptian Insurance market with Misr Insurance and then Suez Canal Insurance.
He began strengthening his international expertise through his work in professional indemnity insurance within the United States market. In 2001, he joined ACE Egypt as a Technical Manager, marking a significant step in his executive career. Since 2005, he has served as the Managing Director of Arab Misr Insurance Group (GIG Egypt), where he has played a pivotal role in driving growth, innovation, and market leadership.
Mr. El Zoheiry has been an influential figure in shaping the insurance sector both in Egypt and across the region. He has served as Chairman of the Insurers Federation of Egypt since 2017. Internationally, he has held key leadership roles within the Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers and Reinsurers (FAIR), serving as Vice Chairman since 2017 and as Chairman from 2021 to 2023. He also served as Chairman of the General Arab Insurance Federation (GAIF) in September 2014 and has represented the Egyptian insurance market within GAIF since 2008.
In addition to his executive and federation roles, Mr. El Zoheiry is an active contributor to the broader business community. He has been a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt since 2005 and has chaired its Insurance Committee since 2008. He also holds several board-level positions, including Vice Chairman of Egyptian Takaful Life (GIG), board member of GIG Jordan, and board member of Gulf Sigorta as well as BKIC in Bharain.
Throughout his career, Mr. El Zoheiry has received numerous prestigious awards in recognition of his leadership and contributions to the insurance industry. These include being named Best Insurance Professional in Egypt (2014), Insurance Personality of the Year in the Middle East (2017), Professional of the Year at the MENAIR Awards (2021), Insurance CEO of the Year at the African Insurance Awards (2022), Re/Insurance Professional of the Year at the MENA IR Awards (2024), and Insurance Professional of the Year at the Intelligent Insurer Awards (2025). With a career defined by strategic leadership, industry influence, and a commitment to excellence, Mr. El Zoheiry continues to play a key role in advancing the insurance sector across Egypt, the Middle East, and beyond.
